Linking defence and security R&D to innovation: the challenge ahead
Security has become one of the major global challenges of recent years. It has certainly been one of the main priorities for the US government, but the European Commission also gave it increased emphasis when it launched its European Security Strategy in December 2003. Linking defence R&D to innovation is a key topic in such defence and security initiatives. The Six Countries Programme held its workshop on "linking defence and security R&D to innovation" with the main purpose of stimulating a discussion and exchanges of ideas on the role of defence and security R&D, the translation of R&D results into new products, processes and services (in the security and defence fields, as well as elsewhere in the economy), and the key challenges that lie ahead in this area.
